Digging In
Our Core Training courses have developed out of a desire to offer a structured setting for learning and discussing various aspects of the Christian faith. From courses on theology and church history to marriage and vocation, Core Training is a venue to think through what you believe and why you believe it.
Each of our courses lasts 7 weeks, and is designed to reflect one of our core values. While some of the course topics also lend themselves to learning in the midst of life, this venue allows for deliberate, in-depth study of the Scripture's teaching on the topic at hand. This not only lays the foundation for practical application to daily life, it also helps to equip the church family for being disciple-making disciples that are growing in the grace and knowledge of their Savior.

Our Core Training will begin on January 15th. We will offer the following classes:
Marriage: The Gospel on Display
A brief look at our culture will show a quickly deteriorating family structure. One cannot read, watch or listen to public media without observing the influx and devastation of failing marriages. They are all around us and have sadly become the norm. Barna's research on the topic suggests that the divorce rate among Christians is at a staggering 32% and almost identical to that of unbelievers. Regardless of the failures, Christian marriage remains the ultimate picture of Christ and his church. During the next seven weeks, we will be challenging each other to magnify Christ in our marriages while addressing the following integral topics: Marriage and Grace, Understanding our Roles, Utilizing and Restoring Communication, and Romance and Intimacy. We all come to marriage as sinners in need of the Savior's grace. Come with us in the discussion as we encourage each other toward Christ-likeness through Christian marriage.

How to Read Your Bible
If you are like most believers, you have known you should read your Bible, you have attempted to do it, and you have found yourself discouraged and losing motivation as your eyes glazed over at the sight of words that seem foreign.
For 7 weeks, "How to Read your Bible" will take into account the shared weakness that we have in discerning how to handle Scriptures. We will attempt to establish some hooks to hang our reading on by providing some direction around a few key questions, such as: Why should I care about Scripture (when the answer 'because you just should' is not enough)? What is the purpose of reading anyway? Is it as complicated as it seems? Along the way we will explore some good and practical methods for helping us to 'get it in you.'
But most of all, the goal of this class is for us to see our love for Scripture increase, not because the Bible itself is unlike any other book, but because its Hero is unlike any other hero. May the word of Christ richly dwell in us as we struggle to learn together of Him in the next 7 weeks.
